Detail

Progress in 2025 has been partial, limited to certain jurisdictions, and the coordination work established at the national level under the previous administration has been discontinued.

The project “Increasing Health-Sector Capacities and Strengthening Coordination on Climate Action in Argentina at the National and Subnational Levels” (Green Climate Fund Readiness Project, 2022–2024) promoted working groups in Misiones, Tucumán and Neuquén, as well as initial coordination activities in La Pampa. Meetings were also held within the framework of the Federal Health Council (COFESA) and the Regional Health Council (CORESA) to discuss health and climate change.

The 2023 National Strategy on Health and Climate Change provides for the continuation of the Ministry of Health’s internal working group under Measure 1.1, and the responses to the information requests indicate that it has been institutionalised. However, there is no public evidence of sustained expansion to additional provinces or of systematic nationwide implementation.

Within the framework of the National Strategy, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires held four meetings during 2024 to analyse the impacts of climate change on the health of the City’s population, promote related initiatives and projects, and foster data-sharing and technical support among teams. The main health impacts discussed were mortality and morbidity during periods of high temperatures and heatwaves, and trends in cases of vector-borne diseases, such as dengue, in relation to high temperatures and rainfall. The assigned category is therefore “Early progress”.
